Filnore Woods is a Community Woodland maintained by passionate volunteers, which provides a diverse range of habitats for wildlife. It is a great place to visit and learn more about the natural world.
Woods are strange and magical places – the home to many of our folk traditions and the settings of stories. We have all heard tales about travellers who stray from the main path and find themselves deep in the woods, face-to-face with the unknown. Once upon a time, the boundaries of the mapped world ended at the edge of the woods – after that, stretched the unknown. We know more about the woods now – we know, for example, that the flora, fauna and fungi found in them are essential to local biodiversity and landscape.
